Boosting Concentration with Essential Oils

Does your child or yourself have trouble concentrating?

Does your mind wander when you're supposed to be studying

Do you sometimes feel like you just need a mental boost?

If you answered 'yes' to any of the above questions, you might want to consider getting some of the essential oils that we sell. (Information about how to buy is at the end of this post.)

In a number of recent tests and clinical experiments, researchers have found that these oils can enhance concentration and mental productivity.

Brain Power (essential oil blend)

'Brain Power' is the name of a unique blend of brain-enhancing essential oils assembled by Young Living researchers. According to The Essential Oils Pocket Reference, this blend of oils "Promotes deep concentration and channels physical energy into mental energy."

The oils in this blend help the brain because they regulate melatonin and are high in sesquiterpene compounds which help to increase activity in the pineal, pituitary and hypothalamus glands.

Here are the oils that make up Brain Power
  • frankincense oil
  • sandalwood oil
  • melissa oil
  • cedarwood oil
  • blue cypress oil
  • lavender oil
  • helichrysum oil

Some of the oils in this blend also have the added benefit of dissolving petrochemicals which congest the receptor sites of the brain. Anyone who struggles with concentration or who simply needs a mental boost should consider trying this oil.

Clarity (essential oil blend)

I use Clarity all the time while I'm writing or studying for my PhD. I find it increases my mental energy and gives my brain greater focus. When you consider the ingredients of this blend, it's hardly surprising that it helps me so much. Here's what Clarity contains:
  • cardamom
  • rosemary oil
  • peppermint oil
  • basil oil
  • bergamot oil
  • geranium oil
  • jasmine oil
  • lemon oil
  • palmarosa oil
  • roman chamomile oil
  • rosewood oil
  • ylang ylang oil

Notice that the Clarity blend includes Cardamom and Rosemary oil. Cardemom has been found to enhance performance accuracy while the University of Miami found that Rosemary boosted alertness, eased anxiety and amplified analytic and mental ability. The other oils in this blend have also been chosen because of their potential to invigorate, boost mental alertness, and improve concentration.

Citrus Fresh (essential oil blend)

Citrus Fresh is a blend of oils that stimulates the right brain, amplifying creativity and well-being in addition to eradicating anxiety. It is particular effective if it is diffused in the air where one is studying. Researchers in Japan found that by diffusing citrus fragrance in an office environment that it improved concentration by 54%. Here are the ingredients of this unique blend:

  • Orange
  • tengerine
  • lemon oil
  • mandarin
  • grapefruit
  • spearmint

The citrus oils in this blend have been specially chosen for their clinically-tested mental-enhancing benefits. For example, this is what The Essential Oils Pocket Reference has to say about lemon oil:
University researchers in Japan found that diffusing certain aromas in an office environment dramatically improved mental accuracy and concentration. Diffused lemon resulted in 54 percent fewer errors, jasmine 33 percent fewer errors, and lavender 20 percent fewer errors. When aromas were diffused during test taking, scores increased by as much as 50 percent. A 1995 Mie University study found that citrus fragrances boosted immunity, induced relaxation, and reduced depression.

En-R-Gee

If you're trying to study when you're feeling a bit flat, and need a mental uplift, this is the perfect blend of oils. The oils in this blend are designed to increase vitality, circulation and alertness. Here are the ingredients:
  • rosemary oil
  • juniper oil
  • lemongrass oil
  • nutmeg oil
  • Idaho balsam fir oil
  • clove oil
  • pepper oil
These oils are powerfully energizing and motivating. (En-R-Gee is not intended for use on children.)

ADD or ADHD?

If you or your child finds it difficult to concentrate because of having ADD or ADHD symptoms, the Brainpower and Clarity blends are particularly effective. There are also a number of other oils which help with ADD and ADHD, and I discuss these in my post 'Oils to Help Reduce ADD and ADHD Symptoms'.
